Already Green

I think that most people are already green. The average Canadian seems to care about the earth and about their local communities and are already taking green measures to help preserve their earth and local communities. This week I read that the GO trains might be extending to Niagara falls and Grimsby would be the first Niagara stop. This seems like a very good and useful thing for citizen in Niagara West-Glanbrook, it would be a step in the direct of possibly having public transit in our area which would greatly benefit our seniors. I also read about the gardening plots at Great Lakes Community Gardens in Beamsville, which allows those that want to garden. This week while I was getting my hair done by an excellent stylist Elena Degroot I learned about Green Circle Salons www.greencirclesalons.ca/ a company that allows salons to recycle foil, colour tubes and hair. It was so nice be having my hair done and hear about this great green endeavours, it seemed clear to me that most people are already green :)

Wednesday May, 25th the Green Party of Ontario Launched their platform and straight forward five point plan.
1. Creating jobs for a twenty-first century economy
2. Harnessing safe, affordable energy to power our communities
3. Promoting access to quality, sustainable health care close to home
4. Feeding our communities by championing local farms
5. Delivering government that works for people

National Police Week

This is week is national police week May 15-21, and I consider this a week to remember all the great things police officers do for all of us and how they truly serve the public. I know that I am very grateful for all the work police officers do for me and my community. It is truly a job of public service and I am very grateful for our excellent officers in Niagara West Glanbrook.

On saturday May, 28 from 9-2 Great Lakes Christian College is collecting unwanted electronic waste :). A great opportunity to recycle all those old MP3s, TVs, cell phone, DVD and VHS players, and other electronic equipment.

This Monday the committee for the up coming bike ride and bbq with Mike met and began to firm up the plans for the event (although Chris Frere had pretty up give us everything we needed:) (chris is a rock star btw!)). The ride will begin at 1pm on 3165 Twenty-First st (pat's house) the bike stops include: Old mill, Canada's farm toy museum, Ridge metal farm, Parker Bees, and Feather Stone. The Ride will end back at 3165 Twenty-First st around 6 pm where there will be a bbq and Mike will address the attendees.

The tickets will be available very soon and its looking like an excellent and fun event. I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately I won't be partaking in the bike ride because I will be at the Green Party of Ontario NWG booth at Berries and Blooms festival but I'm looking forward to the fresh local produce at the bbq after a long day at the festival and of course looking forward to what Mike has to say.

Tickets are:
$25 for adults
$15 for 21 and under

More detail about the event to follow. Contact any member of Green Party NWG for tickets :)

Good morning, Niagara!

Although it's nearing 5pm here at Coffee Culture, this blog signifies more than just my thoughts as your Green Party candidate - it marks a new, sunny day in our otherwise black night of political anti-democracy.

From here on out, every week I will have a new post, spotlighting one issue facing us as citizens of Niagara West-Glanbrook, and more importantly, Canadians. Together, we can show our provincial parliament that we deserve a positive change in not just our area, but our entire province.

One of the first steps toward this positive change in which you can show your interest and support for the Green Party is at our fundraiser, June 18th. At this event, we will have a bike ride between several wineries - the pride of our riding. After the bike ride there will be a picnic, at which you can meet our leader, Mike Schreiner. More details will follow.

Together, we can be the change we want to see.
